Thiruvizha: Come to our Festival, Have a street Carnival

Message from the Producer:

It gives me great pleasure to have produced this wonderful cultural stage show for us Melbournians. Tamil culture encompasses colorful festivals, dances and rituals, which play a major role in every Tamil family bringing unity and respect for one another, which is unique and special.

Thiruvizha in the Tamil language means festivals and celebrations. Displays of such festivals and celebration have never been brought together to the big stage in Australia. Thiruvizha is the first stage show to give you the chance to experience the colour and excitement of Tamil culture here in Melbourne.

Venoth Kumar, Director of Thriuvizha, whose passion for traditional Tamil culture is inspirational and addictive, introduced me to the idea of Thiruvizha. Venoth’s desire to show us Melbournian how festivals and celebrations can brighten our live like it does the lives of Tamil’s around the world was exhilarating.

The other aspect behind the makeup of Thiruvizha is the Cast & Crew and Dancers. People who are passionate about the variety of cultures surrounding them bring Thiruvizha to you. All are amazing local talents both Tamil and non-Tamil from various parts of the world India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and off course Australia.

Tamils have been referred to as the last surviving classical civilization on Earth. Through globalization and exposure to western lifestyle Tamil festivals, dances and celebrations are slowly fading. Thus through Thiruvizha we hope to ‘Nurture This Culture Before It Become History’.

Assisting us in bringing Thiruvizha to you are our amazing Sponsors and Supporters who believed in our vision and supported us. I would like to thank all our amazing Cast, Crew and Dancers for bringing this stage show to life. Your commitment and support throughout this event was priceless. Thank you for making this dream a reality. We hope to work together again to create another magical production.

I would like to thank you our audience who came and watched our wonderful show. We hope you enjoy our production and stay tuned for more.

Co-Producer of Thiruvizha & Director of Natya Bollywood.

Message from the Director:

Vankkam.

It give me immense pleasure to share a few words about this one time marvelous show, THIRUVIZHA that is dedicated to the beautiful language of Tamil and to its esteemed culture. Words could go countless if one starts to describe or explain about the value of the language Tamil or the importance of its culture. A challenging attempt has been undertaken to showcase this spectacular Tamil culture and its own native dances to its best possible accuracy with the show – THIRUVIZHA!

The idea of Thiruvizha originally started because of the burning desire to contribute to the goddess of Tamil and to bring awareness in the minds of the people about the importance of the continued existence of this exquisite culture in the never-ending future. Coming from Thoothukudi, a comparatively small yet a city that still boasts of enjoying the warmth of Tamil culture to its maximum, and having studied in Melbourne, I wanted to share this immaculate culture with both the Tamils in Melbourne and Melbournians in general, who are known for welcoming various cultures and showing their hospitality.

At a time when the concept of Thiruvizha was framed, two people came forward to help me share the burden of bringing my idea into reality and worked with me endlessly to bring out this wonderful show. They are Nithya, the co-producer and Raji, the Marketing Manager of Thiruvizha. Their contribution to this show is far more than my contribution. I also would like to take this opportunity to thank all my cast, dancers and crew and my gifted sponsors. Last but not the least, straight from my heart, my sincere thanks to all the audience who are the real main reason for the success of this show and who take away the memories of this show in their hearts for a long time.

An experience that would travel with everyone down the memory lane for years to come…

Venoth Kumar
Director of Thiruvizha

INTRODUCTION TO THIRUVIZHA

The Culture of any place is its people, their folklore, their traditions and their food habits. This show, Thiruvizha, was a showcase of all these factors. The show has a well-fabricated drama, written in the native Tamil Language.

The Drama portrays the perfect Tamil Family, the way the Tamil people celebrate the three major festivals of Tamil Nadu, namely, Pongal – The Harvest Festival, Deepavali – The Festival of Lights and Thaipoosam – Lord Muruga’s Birthday. Also the drama depicted how marriages are arranged in the traditional Tamil way.

Blended in with the script of the play are the classical dance of the Tamil People – Bharatanatyam and the folk dance forms of ancient Tamils, such as, Karagattam, Kaavadi, Oyil Attam, Silambattam etc.

Also, after the show, a perfect Tamil Dinner was provided to all our audience and participants. The dinner was served in the traditional Tamil way, on a Banana Leaf. Filled with colors, entertainment, amazing Tamil music, Fun filled dramatic scenes and an awesome Delicacy from Tamil Cuisine. Thiruvizha was a treat to all the senses of the audience. ‘Celebrations’ – The Tamil Way !!!
